The Mindful Messages Summer Mentoring Program has come to an end after 12 years in Oakland.  It is something I will dearly miss, but I know it is time for me to move on.  I created the program from my book Mindful Messages which I published in 2002 which focused on Africentric curriculum, culture and life skills for teens.  Even though, much of the work was volunteer, I really enjoyed woking with youth, writing the curriculum, planning activities and taking the kids on exciting summer field trips.  But honestly, I came to a decision, that I needed to devote more time to...

Happy New Year To My Valued Customers

It's been both an interesting and challenging year but much was accomplished.  The small downtown Oakland bookstore located at Kenyan Safari Designs at 1411 Webster Street closed on December 2nd. I gave it a year and decided to move on.  And now the Multi-Cultural Children's Books Store Holiday Pop Up closed Dec. 29 to reopen mid January.  Both were great opportunities for me to collaborate with other like minded women in business and education.  But Ashay by the Bay is going to continue to focus on core business by providing books and educational materials to Public and Private School Districts...

New MULTI-CULTURAL CHILDREN'S POP UP OPENS AT HILLTOP MALL IN RICHMOND!

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!   On December 17th we celebrated our Grand Opening Day at the Hilltop Mall Store.  This store is a Holiday Pop Up that will be open until December 31st.   It is a collaberation between West County READS, Ashay by the Bay and Tamara Shiloh.  West County READS is an established literacy organization located in Richmond.  It is led by Robin Y. On September 30, 2017, Ashay by the Bay was recognized by the members CAAASA (California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators) in Long Beach at their annual roundup conference,  She along with several Superintendents and presenters were saluted for their commitment, dedication and contributions in education in California. "Thanks CAAASA, I was not expecting it, but I feel honored to be presented this Certificate of Achievement by this organization and so many excellent and talented people.  I hope my products and services continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and their communities."

Ashay By The Bay Just Added the New STEM Trailblazer Books to Ashay's Reading List and Collections

To support the need for African American STEM literature, many of the books in the popular  STEM Trailblazer Series by Lerner Books were added to Ashay's African American Reading List and Collections.  These are excellent books that focus on the important achievements of modern day African American Scientists, Mathematicians and Inventors.  They are available in paperback and the reading age is 8-11. The cost  for each book is $8.99 each.
